Hailing from Lyon (France), Pamela Badjogo is an artist who use her voice as a galvanizing energy source as well as an activist tool. In her early days, Badjogo was a backing singer for Salif Keita and Tiken Jah Fakoly, both artistic figures who embody the importance of addressing social issues through music.

We met with Badjogo at the end of her week long residency held at Le Sucre - club venue in Lyon - were she was able to prepare the live performance of her latest musical project, Kaba. In this conversation we dive into the practice of Badjogo, as a pivotal member of multiple activism initiatives (Les Féministres, Les Amazones d'Afrique...), and the inspirations from the Bantu rhythms of West Africa and Mandingo influences infused in her music.
